About the studio
What is the Process Art Studio?
The Process Art Studio based in Mishawaka is focused on providing a variety of art experiences that are not based on technical skills. We offer workshops and have some availability for private events and individual lessons as well.
What is Process Art?
Process Art is all about the process of creating - not the end result. It is based on exploring media and having fun. Process art is meant to be messy, exciting, and imperfect. It is not a step-by-step tutorial and everyone will leave with a very unique piece of art. It is about using new things, using old things in a new way, or combining materials you might not normally combine.
Who Can Do Process Art?
Everyone! The Process Art Studio offers options for all ages. We all deserve a chance to have some fun. No artistic skill or confidence is required, just a willingness.
About the owner
My name is Mary and I have been an artist for as long as I can remember. My earliest memories include coloring contests, playing with playdough and my grandpa teaching me to "camouflage" outdoor furniture by dabbing sponges in old cans of paint. I had no idea my grandpa was trying to use up old paint, and neither of us had any idea what process art therapy was!
I always knew I would pursue a career in art. I obtained bachelor's degrees in Visual Arts and Psychology from Bethel University in 2015. I finished my master’s in Art Therapy from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in 2023. It was in this program that I learned about process art and I have fallen in love with it! It has completely changed the way I see art and I no longer focus on technical skill but on expression and creativity. I am so excited for you to fall in love with process art as well!
When I am not doing art, I like playing with my cats (you’ll see their pictures occasionally). I also like getting out and doing stuff - I was not meant to stay still! I love traveling or just finding something new here in Mishawaka or South Bend.
